There are many designs of kitchen faucets and sinks available, but they don't always match the water pipes in your home.
For that, start by looking at your kitchen sink to determine how many kitchen faucet mounting holes and drilling are available.
This applies if you are installing a new faucet on an existing sink or buying completely new faucets and sinks.
If the faucet has a mounting plate on it, check under the sink to see how many holes the mounting plate covers. Well, here are things about mounting holes to keep in mind:
-Kitchen faucets can have one to four mounting holes
-Three holes are used for the spout and two handles
-The fourth hole is usually used for accessories such as a soap dispenser or side spray
-Each new faucet indicates how many mounting holes are required for installation on the package.
-When attaching a single-handle faucet to a three-hole sink, the deck plate will usually cover the unused opening.
The location of the sink mounting holes is another thing to keep in mind. Often, the faucet is located close to the center of the sink, but this is not always the case.
If the faucet is to be installed on one side of the sink, the spout must be long enough to reach the opposite sink in order to be used.
A tall spout with a drop-down spray nozzle is another option for sinks with corner mounting holes.
Check the drains
Make sure to buy a selected new kitchen faucet compatible with the water supply line. Look under your sink toward the bottom of the cabinet and note the size of the existing drains and shut-off valves.
Here are some guidelines to use when inspecting your drains and valves:
-If you're not sure what size your drain is, measure it with a tape measure
-Although you may have to look for it, the size should be engraved on the valve
-Note that older housings may not have shut-off valves
-Many newer kitchen faucets come with a 3/8-inch flexible line attached. If your existing water shutoff valve is half an inch, you must change the shutoff valve to a 3/8 inch valve before installing a new faucet
-It's usually a good idea to replace the shut-off valve when installing a new faucet, however, as the old valve may fail if you need to turn off the water for a leak or other repair.
