How to Remove Crust on the Floor and Bathroom Grout

Hard water that contains large amounts of lime and other minerals can result in a build-up of scale.

This scale problem often occurs on floors and bathroom grout because water is often allowed to dry on these surfaces.

Reporting from Home Guides Sfgate, regular cleaning using the right tools is an easy way to remove scale stains on floors and bathroom grout without scratching and damaging them.

Well, here's how to remove crust on the bathroom floor.

Equipment
Cleaning using hard materials can damage the bathroom floor and grout. Therefore, avoid using heavy cleaning products and stiff brushes.

Mild cleaners and abrasive sponges can work as well as harsh cleaners without damaging the surface although they require more scrubbing and elbow grease to completely remove scale.

A mild abrasive sponge is capable of scrubbing bathroom floors and grout. Alternatively, you can use an old toothbrush with soft bristles to go in and scrub the bathroom grout.

descaling
Typical chalk scales have a chalky white appearance, but don't peel off easily from floors or grout. You can use a paste mixture of vinegar and baking soda to make a mild abrasive.

Vinegar can remove scale and baking soda acts as an abrasive to scrub deposits off of floor surfaces and bathroom grout.

Apply the paste all over the hard stain area and leave it on for five to 10 minutes. Then, scrub the bathroom floor and grout with an abrasive sponge or toothbrush and rinse with clean water.

Eliminate discoloration
Lime scale can also leave a rusty red, brown, or turquoise color, depending on the other metals present in the hard water.

Making a paste of lemon juice and borax can remove rusty stains. Chlorine bleach or floor cleaners containing bleach can also lighten hard water stains.

Prevention
The heavier the scale buildup, the more difficult and time-consuming removal is. By preventing the build-up of scale, it can minimize the frequency and duration of cleaning.

Less descaling also extends the life of the floor and bathroom grout as excessive and vigorous scrubbing can damage the floor surface.

Clean the bathroom and bathtub cover after each use with a towel or gum cleaner to prevent water from drying on the walls and leaving scale deposits.
