Tips for Choosing Towels and How to Care for Them

Towels are important in daily activities. Sometimes a towel that has a material that doesn't suit the skin will not make the wearer feel comfortable.

However, as reported by Decortips, some people sometimes choose towels only based on the design, even though the most important thing in choosing towels is the type of material.

How to choose the best towel to use? Here are the tips.

1. Towel material

This is one of the most important aspects when choosing towels, their softness and quality depend on it.

Check labels to verify components. The best towels are 100 percent cotton.

However, there are other towel material options that you can consider, including the following.

Cotton: There are several types of cotton, the most desirable being Egyptian cotton, which is of higher quality and absorbency.

Apart from that, Turkish cotton is also very good because of the softness it gives.

Linen: is a natural fiber and can hold up quite well.

Although not as soft as cotton, it has good absorbency, is smooth and dries quickly. Of course, make sure your towels are 100 percent linen.

Microfibers: there are different types of microfibers, the conventional one is one of the cheapest. The more expensive versions have twisted strands and provide more density and less twisted or untwisted strands are softer.

2. Hydrophilicity

Hydrophilicity refers to the ability to absorb moisture. When choosing towels, make sure the towels are graded 4 to 5.

This factor also determines the ability to transport moisture through the fiber and accelerate drying.

The study of the behavior of different textiles shows that to test the hydrophilicity of the fabric, a drop of water can be placed on the surface. If it spreads quickly, it indicates that the material is hydrophilic.

Keep in mind that fabric softener is not compatible with towels that are highly hydrophilic.

So, another tip to keep your towels durable is to use little or no fabric softener on the towels.

3. Towel size

Towels can be purchased separately and in sets available in various sizes. On the product label, you can see the specific size of each towel.

However, here is an overview of the various sizes available:

Bath towels: 100 cm x 150/160 cm.

Bath towels: 70 cm x 140 cm.

Washbasin towels for hands/face: 50 cm x 100 cm.

Duster/flanel: 30 cm x 50 cm.

How to care for towels

Towels have specifications that make them very delicate, depending on their quality. Therefore, it's good to learn how to care for it so that it lasts longer.

Wash separately: do not wash them with clothes, this avoids the wool from other fabrics sticking together.

Sort by color: as you would with household clothes, separate towels by color to avoid staining.

Use less detergent: You don't need to use too much detergent. Just dissolve a little in the laundry and that's it.

Avoid fabric softener: fabric softener will change the quality of the towels so there is no need to use it.
