Most Common Ceiling Fan Problems

Hanging fans are a comfortable and cost-effective air conditioner option to keep a room from feeling hot without air conditioning. Hanging fans can help distribute hot and cold air and maintain ideal temperatures while also saving less electricity. However, just like any other electronic item, anyone must be prepared to face some problems with hanging fans that arise someday.

Launching the Finolex page, here are some of the problems that can arise when you have a hanging fan.

 1. Flashing lights

Hanging fans equipped with lights can have the common problem of flashing lights. A flickering light or bulb in a hanging fan could be due to a loose connection or fixture with the bulb. A more severe cause of a hanging fan light flickering could also be voltage fluctuation, as other electronic equipment draws more power than others.

For example, if the hanging fan light starts flickering while starting the washing machine, that is a sure sign of voltage fluctuation. Contact an electrician for help fixing the problem.

 2. Wobbly

Hanging fan wobbly as if showing a fan that is about to fall from the ceiling. A wobbly fan is a common problem. There are three main reasons: the fan is of poor quality, is not installed properly, or has damaged fan blades. Another reason could be due to bent or loose connection of the fan blades. This can be the case with the blade bracket, box screw, or other connected part. Over time and with frequent use, these joints can lose their grip so that the hanging fan vibrates every time it is turned on.

 3. Noisy when turned on

Even though the normal fan makes a noise when turned on, too much noise is definitely a hanging fan problem. Fan noise is a sign of a loose connection in either the fan or the equipment. These loose parts will ring each other when the fan spins and produce a loud sound.

Another problem could be fan ball bearings. The ball bearing is what rotates the hanging fan blades. Ball bearings need to be cleaned and lubricated properly to ensure there is no resistance or friction, which causes them to make noisy or loud noises.

4. Stuck at one speed

If you experience hanging fan speed problems, this more often means that the fan is only running at one speed when turned on. One reason is if the ball bearings have not been cleaned or lubricated. Another reason may be because the hanging fan is damaged.

Other reasons could also include overheating of the fan motor or faulty capacitors, both of which can cause the hanging fan to operate at only one speed.

 5. Doesn't turn on

If the hanging fan stops working or doesn't turn on, it could be due to not receiving electricity or it could be because the circuit breaker has tripped or turned off. Check the panel to confirm this. If the circuit breaker works fine, there could be a problem with loose wires and connections. Hanging fans can also stop working due to internal damage such as ball bearings or motor overheating. If you have a hanging fan, some of the problems above have to be dealt with, so don't be surprised. You can try to fix it yourself, but it's always better to leave everything up to the professionals.
